SNOW DAY FUN–On Sunday and Monday, the area was coated in ice then covered with a blanket of snow. The winter storm caused many businesses to close, and even some power outages. Much of Monday was spent digging out streets and sidewalks. In addition, area schools called a snow day, thus delaying children returning to school from Christmas break. Jamie Schindler shared this picture of cousins Caleb and Abigail Crook and Kourtney Schindler playing in the snow Monday.
Starting out late on Saturday, Jan. 4 and continuing through Monday, Jan. 6, a winter storm passed through the local area. The storm, identified as Winter Storm Blair, crossed much of the country leaving lots of sleet, snow and ice in its wake, along with power outages and travel delays.
U.S. National Weather Service in Saint Louis, MO reported on Monday that “Significant snow, sleet and freezing rain fell across the region Saturday night through early this morning.”
They also reported that there would be an extended period of bitterly cold temperatures this week, with temperatures remaining below freezing through at least Friday. “Short term exposure could result in hypothermia and frostbite. Long term exposure could be life threatening in these conditions.” And more snow was in the forecast for this upcoming weekend.
