Wendt named as Hometown Hero

The latest Hometown Hero featured by the Red Bud VFW Post 6632 is Robert Wendt.

Wendt was born July 1, 1924. He was drafted right out of high school at the age of 19. He served as a private first class in the Army and was in the United States Infantry during World War II.

He served from 1943-1945. He was stationed at Fort McClellen, AL with the 36th Division, 141 Infantry Company I. He landed in North Africa and was in Naples, Italy in the Battle of Monte Cassino, Italy, north of the Rapido River.
