Musketeers victorious at Carlyle

The Red Bud Musketeers improved to 2-2 overall with a convincing win against the Indians last week. It was the first conference game for both teams, making Red Bud 1-0 in Cahokia Conference play.

Carlyle jumped out in front with a first quarter touchdown on a 20 yard pass play while holding the Musketeer offense in check to give the Indians an 8-0 lead after one frame. Red Bud answered with a drive capped with a 25 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Landon Ruebusch to Lucas Schwartzkopf, the PAT failed to make the score 8-6, Indians.

Ruebusch connected with Zach Manning for the Musketeers’ second score on a 70 yard pass play to take the lead 12-6. Red Bud added a third score with 40 seconds remaining in the second quarter when Ruebusch found Schwartzkopf for a five yard touchdown pass; Brayden Koester’s PAT was good and the Musketeers were up 19-8 at the half.
