MRTD route study looks to the future

The Monroe-Randolph Transit District (MRTD) will discontinue the MRTD Express route effective July 1.

Since its launch in June 2021, the MRTD Express has served as a vital connection between Waterloo and the 5th and Missouri MetroLink stop, replacing the long-standing 2X route formerly operated by St. Clair County Transit District. For years, it provided essential access to regional transit options for commuters, students and residents needing access to the broader Metro East area.

Unfortunately, as ridership steadily declined, continuing to fund the MRTD Express was no longer sustainable. While this chapter is closing, MRTD remains deeply committed to meeting the evolving transportation needs of the region.
