The Illinois High School Association state wrestling tournament wrapped up with a major milestone for Red Bud sophomore Danny Jackson who is now a two-time IHSA State placer. Jackson competed in the 190 pound weight class in the 1A school division.
Jackson opened the tournament with a win before facing a tough challenge in the quarterfinals against Larson, the defending state champion at 170 pounds who captured the 190 pound bracket this year. After the loss, Jackson battled back through the wrestlebacks, winning two straight matches to secure a spot on the podium. He later earned a rematch with Ross Miller, a senior from Vandalia. The two had previously met in the postseason, and once again it was a tightly contested bout. Miller secured a takedown in the final 15 seconds to claim a 4-1 victory.
