Friday’s storms brought tornadoes and caused damage across local area

STORM DAMAGE–Randolph County EMA Assistant Coordinator Lyn Thies shared this picture of one of the homes near Rockwood that had been damaged by the EF-1 tornado that passed through that area on the night of March 14.

Strong storms swept through the area on Friday, March 14, bringing heavy winds, rain, hail and even a tornado.

Red Bud, and much of Randolph County, was very fortunate to receive no major damage.

Randolph County Emergency Management Agency Assistant Coordinator Lyn Thies noted that a tornado was reported to cross through the southern part of the county though.

He said that the National Weather Service conducted a storm survey and found that an EF-1 tornado, with winds between 86 and 110 mph, hit rural areas north of Rockwood. This included along County Highway 5, County Farm Road, Mt. Summit Road and View Valley Road.
