Various updates were the main topics of discussion at the Aug. 2 Randolph County Board of Commissioners meeting. And a big portion of updates covered the work at the Randolph County Care Center.
Care Center Administrator Michelle Cato noted that there was lots of activity going on there outside. “The residents are very excited. They are finally starting to see stuff going on.” She added that they had talked to some of the residents about painting the outside of the building, and they were also excited about that.
She shared that day they were supposed to start work on asphalting the new parking lot and roadway.
In public comments, resident Alan Weber asked about the geothermal wells that were put in underneath the parking lot at the care center.
Commissioner Marc Kiehna explained that they had originally planned to drill the wells deeper, but had run into some mine shafts. So the depth was shorted, but they ended up drilling additional wells in order to get the amount needed to accommodate a building the size of the care center.
These wells are located on the west side and south side of the care center. The ones on the south side were drilled prior to the parking lot being done, but they still have access to them.
