County approved bid for jail expansion

Expansion of the Randolph County Jail is moving ahead, as the Randolph County commissioners approved of a bid for the project at their Jan. 17 meeting.

Last year in May, it was announced that the county would be receiving a $4.3 million Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grant, funded through Congressional directed spending through the Department of Justice, for renovations and expansion of the jail.

The proposed work would renovate the 50 year old county jail and add a new cell block. In addition, the intake/receiving area will be updated, life-safety improvements will be made, they will add an additional day room, and the current administration office will be updated.
