Three arrested in connection to fatal crash by Steeleville last November

Randolph County Sheriff Shannon Wolff announced on March 22 the arrest of three Steeleville residents in connection to a fatal traffic crash that took place last November.

According to the sheriff’s department on Nov. 1, 2020, they received a 911 call reporting a car vs. deer traffic accident on Locust Road, near Coolie Bottom Road outside of Steeleville. Steeleville Police were first to arrive on scene, discovering that instead of a deer it was Degan Sanders, 31, of Percy, that had been struck.

Sanders had been walking westbound on Locust Road to his truck following an afternoon hunt, when he was struck.

Medical first responders were immediately requested and lifesaving measures were implemented at that time. Unfortunately, Sanders could not be saved and was later pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.
