A pair of Sparta police officers were injured on Monday, Jan. 31 during an incident with a fleeing suspect that started in New Athens and ended outside of Sparta.
In a press release, the Sparta Police Department reported that at 6:43 p.m., they were notified by the Illinois State Police of a vehicle pursuit that began in New Athens.
They were told that both the New Athens and Marissa Police Departments were already involved in the pursuit, and the driver of the suspect vehicle had struck a Marissa Police car, disabling it.
