Last weekend, Avery Smith competed at the first ever IHSA Girls Wrestling Sectional in Peoria.
She placed second in the tournament and qualified for the first IHSA Girls State Tournament, which will be held in Bloomington Feb. 25-26.
Smith is a sophomore from Valmeyer, but wrestles on the Red Bud High School wrestling team. She is the only female wrestler on the team.
