If anyone knows a teacher who plans field trips to city hall, organizes community volunteer projects or invites veterans to speak in class, they should nominate him/her for the Red Bud VFW Post 6632 Teacher of the Year Award, which can lead to the National Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year Award. Also, a teacher can now self-nominate, as long as they meet the requirements.
Teachers who promote civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism are prime candidates for the Teacher of the Year Award. Candidates are judged in citizenship, innovation in the classroom, utilization of resources and passion toward teaching. Winners at the local level receive a certificate and $50 from the Red Bud VFW Post 6632, and winners are nominated forthe VFW District 14 Teacher of the Year.
