Red Bud officers honored

A special ceremony was held at the Red Bud City Hall on the evening of July 21, to present both Red Bud Officers Mike Collins and Luke Horrell with the Sons of the American Revolution Law Enforcement Award.
Each year the SAR Lewis and Clark Chapter honors outstanding police officers, and this year both Collins and Horrell were selected for this honor.
Red Bud Police Chief John Brittingham started the presentation by reading “A Police Officer’s Prayer” and then recapped the incident that took place in the early morning hours of May 23 in Red Bud. He noted that both officers “were engaged in a life and death struggle with an aggressive, armed and violent suspect.” During the encounter, Collins was shot in the leg by the suspect, and Horrell ultimately had to use deadly force to end the conflict.
“These two men, in a time of great danger, protected each other and they both went home alive,” Brittingham stated.
