Red Bud Lumber building is no more

COMING DOWN–Pictured is the former Red Bud Lumber Company building on South Main Street while it was being torn down on Tuesday morning.

Those driving on South Main in Red Bud may have noticed a huge change on Tuesday, Feb. 2 as the former Red Bud Lumber Company building was demolished.

According to “History of Red Bud and Horse Prairie” by Jane Lucht, the building was originally built in 1953. The lumber business closed in 1986.

The building was later used by Weir for parts storage, but has been vacant for some time.

Kelle and Kevin Oeste, owners of V8 Speed and Resto Shop, located just on the other side of Brand Street from the former lumber building, recently purchased it.

Kelle told the North County Newsthat they spent about 600 hours cleaning up in the building and salvaging some of the lumber, in preparation for demolition.

Most of the building was torn down, but she noted that they are saving the two back sections of the building for storage.
