RBHS gym to be named after Griffin

GYM DEDICATION–Next Monday, Aug. 25, Red Bud High School will be renaming and dedicating its auxiliary gym in honor of longtime RBHS coaching legend Sandy Griffin. She was also honored in April of this year as the first inductee into the Red Bud Musketeers Booster Association’s Hall of Fame. Griffin is pictured with Musketeer Hall of Fame committee members Darren Liefer, Tim Liefer and Danny Moll.

Monday night, a special dedication ceremony will be held at Red Bud High School as they rename the school’s auxiliary gym after coaching legend – Sandy Griffin.

The school will be kicking off the volleyball season by playing in the same gym that Griffin coached her 1974-75 team that competed in the first ever IHSA state volleyball tournament. The team faced numerous challenges and people who didn’t want them there, as well as went into the tournament as the smallest team, but persevered and brought home third place.

Griffin had a huge impact on girls’ athletics. Coaching for 29 years, she poured her heart into the program, striving for excellence, demanding dedication and discipline from her players, and ultimately earned the respect of all of them.
