REMEMBERING A LOCAL HERO–A special ceremony was held last Friday at the Evansville American Legion to reunite the family of World War II hero Gilbert Prosek with medals he had earned in the service. Pictured at the event are: family member and Evansville American Legion Post Commander Barry Greer, Randolph County Commissioner Ronnie White, Prosek’s sisters Shirley Dreczka and Joyce Faverty, Congressman Mike Bost and family member Melissa Kempfer.
U.S. Congressman Mike Bost visited Randolph County on Friday, Aug. 16.
He started the day at the Randolph County Board of Commissioners meeting, then visited with Red Bud Mayor Susan Harbaugh. At lunch time, he visited the Monroe Randolph Regional Office of Education, where he chatted and enjoyed lunch with the students there. Afterwards, he traveled to Evansville where he visited with Village President Kenny Kempfer.
What may have been his most important stop of the day though, was at the Evansville American Legion. There, in a very small ceremony, Bost presented the family of Gilbert “Gib” Prosek with the military medals he had earned during World War II.
