Over the summer Prairie du Rocher School hired a new superintendent who is very excited to be a part of the historic French community.
Dr. Margo Schmitt is originally from Rockford, but has lived in Des Plaines for the past 17 years.
When asked what would bring someone from the Chicago area to the small community of Prairie du Rocher, she noted that it is her love of all things French and of the Mississippi River.
Schmitt explained that when she was attending Augustana College, she was a triple major: French, Asian studies and business. In her studies, she learned of many French speaking and heritage locations, which included Prairie du Rocher.
