Ty Carter is the first Musketeer wrestler to qualify for the IHSA Boys’ State Tournament which will be held this weekend in Champaign. He qualified last weekend by finishing fourth at the Carterville Sectional in the 182 pound weight class. Last year Carter qualified for sectionals as a sophomore and came close to making it to state.
Avery Smith (Valmeyer) qualified for the IHSA Girls’ State Tournament for the second year in a row. She will be competing in Bloomington the weekend of Feb. 24. Smith earned her way to state by winning the 115 pound weight class at the Peoria Sectional. She finished fourth last year in the 120 pound weight class.
