STATE CHAMPIONS–Improv, which is made up of members Doug Brooks, Paul Schulte, Steve Martin and Ryan Latinette, recently took the title of state champions for men’s quartet at the Illinois District Barbershop Harmony’s annual Quartet and Chorus Competition.
The Illinois District of the Barbershop Harmony Society held its annual Quartet and Chorus Competitions in Bloomington on Sept. 26-27.
At the event, 16 quartets and 10 choruses competed for a chance to either become the new Illinois District Champions or qualify to compete at the international competition that will be held in St. Louis the first week of July in 2026.
Steve Martin of Red Bud competed with a quartet called Improv, and all of the members of that quartet also competed with the Belleville Sounds of Harmony Chorus as well. The members of the Improv quartet are: lead Doug Brooks, bass Paul Schulte, baritone Steve Martin and tenor Ryan Latinette.
