K9 Rudy is almost ready for duty

K9 Rudy and Officer Michael Collins

Red Bud Police Chief John Brittingham reported this week that the department’s newest police officer will hopefully be ready for duty in late June/early July.

K9 Rudy just has a little more training to complete and then he’ll be ready to serve the community.

Rudy, a nine month old Belgian Malinois from Holland and formerly named Draco, was introduced to the Red Bud City Council during the council’s committee meetings on Monday evening, May 17.

Brittingham stated that Rudy was picked up last Friday. “This dog most related to Mike, so we went ahead and got him so they can bond.”

While Rudy has already completed some of his training and could start and pass the certification test now, he and his handler Officer Michael Collins will be completing a bit more training before he officially goes on duty.

Additionally, the police department is still waiting on the new vehicle that Collins and Rudy will use.
