A local couple was fatally injured in a two vehicle crash last week Wednesday.
According to the Illinois State Police, at 9:08 a.m. on April 9, there was a two vehicle rollover crash at the intersection of State Route 154 and Prairie Road.
The preliminary report noted that Alan R. Wahlman, 72, of Walsh, was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado truck northbound on South Prairie Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with State Route 154. Wahlman struck a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox that was making a left turn off of State Route 154 onto South Prairie Road, causing the Equinox to overturn.
Randolph County Coroner Tracy Vallett identified the driver of the Equinox as Jane Lucht, 86, of Red Bud. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Jane’s husband, Vernon Lucht, 90, of Red Bud, was a passenger in the vehicle. He was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital where he passed.
