A new smoke detector replacement program was one of the bigger items of discussion at the brief Evansville Village Board meeting on Dec. 12.
Trustee Darren Kempfer reported that starting at the beginning of the year, the fire department would be participating in a new program. Through this program, anyone in the fire department’s district can set up an appointment to have an older battery style smoke detector replaced with a new 10 year version.
He added that the new smoke detectors will be free, but have to be installed by one of the firemen. The firemen will also give a brief fire safety presentation when they install the new detector.
