Bryant talks about her new role as state senator

Terri Bryant was sworn in as the state senator for the 58th Senate District on Jan. 13. Previously she had served for six years as the state representative for the 115th House District.

As her new elected position has her covering some newer territory, in addition to meeting with local officials, she sat down with the North County Newsrecently to discuss her new position, what issues/legislation she’s dealing with currently and what may be coming up in the future.

The 115th House District covers parts or all of Jackson, Jefferson, Perry, Union and Washington Counties. In addition to those counties, the 58th Senate District also includes all or parts of Randolph, St. Clair and Monroe Counties.

“I’m having to get reacquainted with the mindset of the Metro East,” Bryant noted. “The needs are a little different, but I understand the dynamic and the needs.”

She added that while she currently resides in Jackson County, she was originally from East St. Louis, then moved while young to Belleville, then later to Jackson County. So she already has some background with the area.
