A solemn ceremony

On the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 17, Red Bud VFW Post 6632, the Auxiliary to Post 6632 and Boy Scout Troop 8343 held a flag retirement ceremony.

Following proper flag protocol, a total of 160 old, damaged and worn out flags were ceremoniously burned at the Post.

Pictured lined up to place retired flags into the fire are Scouts Cooper Easton, Ethan Deterding, Dalton Ehret and Liam Chapman.

On Monday, the ashen remains of these flags were then buried on the VFW Post’s property.

The VFW would like to remind all that there is a flag drop box located next the police department at the Red Bud City Hall. Flags can be placed in this drop box at any time. If anyone has any questions about dropping off old flags, feel free to reach out to the VFW.
