The Chester Bridge is no more as on Monday, Sept. 28, with a large crowd watching, its remaining frame structure was imploded and dropped into the Mississippi River.
The Chester Chamber of Commerce had held a raffle for the honor of pressing the button, and last Friday drew Linda Sympson as the winner. Sympson however opted to pass the honor on to Former Chester Mayor Tom Page. She said she chose Page because of his hard work in helping bring the major project to fruition.
So Monday morning, Page rode out on a barge to watch the implosion and press the button to trigger the implosion.
