Opening ceremonies for Don Welge Memorial Bridge held July 11

CUT THE RIBBON–A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new Don Welge Memorial Bridge on July 11. For the ribbon cutting, members of the Welge family were joined by numerous local officials. Don’s wife Mary Alice Welge and his son Tom Welge are pictured cutting the ribbon while the rest look on.

“To my dad, this wasn’t just a bridge, it was a mission,” Tom Welge stated during the opening ceremonies for the Don Welge Memorial Bridge on Saturday, July 11.

“He understood what this crossing meant and how people depended on it. This is more than just steel and concrete,” he continued. “Bridges bring people together and make things possible. It was built not just for today, but for the future.

“If my dad was here today, he’d say thank you for not just building this, but for all it stands for. It doesn’t just connect us, but carries us forward.”
