Scour hole is finally being filled

REPAIRS UNDERWAY–After extensive effort in trying to get assistance to repair the scour hole near the Stringtown Levee, work is finally underway. Pictured are workers filling in the scour hole with sand last week.

Recently, there has been a lot of activity at the scour hole near the Stringtown Levee in rural Monroe County.

Stringtown Levee Chairman Lynden Prange met with the North County News last week to give an update on the ongoing scour hole situation.

The scour hole is located on the river side of the levee, and not too far from Fort de Chartres, in an area that was previously farm ground. The hole was created by an undercurrent from the river that has cut into the ground from underneath. The water would eat away at the ground on the river side of the levee, causing the hole to grow in size.
