Evansville discusses water issues

Water issues and coming events were the big topics of discussion at the Oct. 13 Evansville Village Board meeting.

Trustee Travis Hall noted that a combination of factors, including the lock and dam being closed for around two months, no rain and hot weather, lead to a build up of iron in the river, and ultimately the village’s water. This led to Village Superintendent Ed Braun flushing the water lines in order to clear them out, as well as use more chemicals in treating the water. “We did what we could with it.”

“The stagnant water was a big issue for a week to a week and a half,” Village President Kenny Kempfer noted. “It was a perfect storm and fish were dying.”

He added that once the lock was reopened and water was flowing again, the water quality did get better.
