Steeleville area solar projects approved

Solar farms, retired teachers and West Nile were among the topics of discussion at the Aug. 29 Randolph County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Continuing their discussion from their last meeting, the commissioners approved of the ordinances to allow two solar farms by Steeleville.

Board Chairman David Holder noted that they had previously tabled the matter in order to give their attorney a chance to review the special use permit applications.

The two projects, Blackstump Solar and Thimbleberry Solar, are both 5 MW projects that would be located approximately a mile north of Steeleville off of Blackstump Road. Both will be constructed on privately owned properties: Blackstump Solar on approximately 47 acres; and Thimbleberry on 80 acres.
