West Nile Virus confirmed in area

Early this week it was reported that there had been confirmed mosquitoes positive with West Nile Virus in the local area.

Local health departments, including both the Randolph and Monroe County Health Departments, collect and test mosquitos for the presence of West Nile Virus.

On Aug. 18, the Monroe County Health Department reported their first positive mosquito pools of the season.

Then, on Aug. 19, the Randolph County Health Department reported that a mosquito sample collected in the City of Sparta tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). This is the first confirmed positive WNV mosquito sample in the county in 2025. No human cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Randolph County so far.
