Commissioners approve of special conditions for solar farm by Sparta

At their meeting last week, Randolph County’s Board of Commissioners approved of their special use conditions for the proposed solar farm by Sparta.

Back in April, the commissioners were presented with a special use permit for a 135 acre 25MW AC solar farm, named Gypsum Solar. It would be in two sections located in unincorporated Randolph County, approximately a mile south of Sparta, along Chester Road and Nature Trail Road.

Solar farms have been an ongoing hot topic for the county, often drawing in a crowd to voice their opposition. This project has definitely brought in numerous residents wanting to share their concerns. One of the biggest concerns being traffic and safety for that particular stretch of road.
