Volunteers laid new sod on baseball and softball fields

WORK ON THE FIELDS–Recently, a group of volunteers and students worked to put down new sod on the Prairie du Rocher baseball and softball fields.

The Prairie du Rocher Grade School and the Prairie du Rocher Athletic Association are teaming up to improve the baseball and softball facilities in Prairie du Rocher.

In 2017 the school received a Cardinals Care grant to go towards improvements to the softball field. These improvements included new fencing for added safety, improvements to the playing field itself and new dugouts.

The final leg of that project is in the process of being completed with the new dugouts under construction now. The work for these projects has mostly come from volunteers of the athletic association.

Recently, the school and the athletic association collaborated on yet another project.

Over 10,000 square feet of new sod has been put down on the two fields. This time, students from the seventh and eighth grade classes got their hands dirty and helped to put down the sod.

It was great to see such enthusiasm from the students for doing something to improve the quality of the community they live in. Kids for generations to come will benefit from the hard work that they put in.
