This week the varsity girls basketball team opened its season at the annual Sparta Invitational. Second year Head Coach Jacob Kueker looks forward to the season with five seniors and six juniors returning.
“We are coming into the season with a lot more varsity experience than we had last season,” Kueker said.
The seniors are guard Amber Stengel and forwards Jessica Bievenue, Reese Foster, Sami Lucht, and Megan Stellhorn. The juniors include Maegan Brookman, Olivia Carle, Kassidy Ellner, Claire Grohmann, Roz Surman, and Merideth Whelan.
“Coming into the season with the help of my assistants Tiffany Henry and Tara Hubert, we have been working hard to continue to push our identity as a program to out work people and wear teams down physically and mentally. Having an older group this year, we have to rely on the upperclassmen to be leaders for the younger players who didn’t get any varsity time last year. Even with 11 upperclassmen, we will still need help from the underclassmen.
