The third annual Red Bud Community Prayer Breakfast was held at Red Bud Regional Hospital on the morning of May 2.
The breakfast is put on by the Rotary Club of Red Bud, the Red Bud Lions Club, the Red Bud Chamber of Commerce and Red Bud Regional Hospital.
This year’s featured speakers were Chaplain, Captain George E. Kahl and MSgt Vanessa Minnick, both of the 375th Air Mobility Wing at Scott Air Force Base.
Prayers/scripture readings were also given by Rev. Cory Hartz of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Monsignor Dennis Schaefer of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Pastor Paul Kurrelmeyer of Red Bud first baptist Church. Red Bud Superintendent of Schools Jonathan Tallman, Mayor Tim Lowry and Red Bud Regional Hospital CEO Shane Watson gave the welcome. Red Bud VFW Commander Clarence Nail led the Pledge of Allegiance.
“Today is a day set aside for individuals, families, businesses, the state and the nation, for prayer,” Tallman noted, before adding that the annual prayer breakfast is a unique opportunity for the community to get together. “This breakfast is organized by the local civic organizations and invites the local clergy, giving a unique opportunity for fellowship and prayer.”
