Students and staff recognized at Dec. 19 school board meeting

RECOGNIZED BY THE BOARD–Several students and staff were recognized by the Red Bud Board of Education at their Dec. 19 meeting. Pictured with the board at the meeting are: staff Peg Masterson and Shelly Liefer, elementary student Kylie Zipfel, and high school FFA members Molly Ellner, Kailyn Moeller, Austin Grohmann and Jake Siegfried.

Student and staff recognitions, along with some course changes, were the biggest items of discussion at the Dec. 19 Red Bud Board of Education meeting.

As the meeting took place just before Christmas, elementary student Kylie Zipfel performed a few Christmas songs for the board, singing and playing on her ukulele.

“Kylie is an awesome student,” Elementary Principal Ryan McClellan said in introducing her. He also noted that due to Lindsey Gallaher’s maternity leave, the school hasn’t had ukulele club this year. But last year, Zipfel was an active participant and also helped out with the other students.

“I wanted to recognize her leadership skills and talent,” McClellan stated.

For staff, he recognized kindergarten teacher Shelly Liefer and retired/substitute teacher Peg Masterson.

McClellan noted that Liefer has headed up the Language Arts Festival for the past nine years and “puts a lot of work into it.” He also added that it is a great community event that takes a lot of coordination with the other area schools prior to the event, and then afterwards there is still work in coordinating for the Young Author’s Conference.
