
A pair of shooting incidents were reported in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 18 in Sparta.
Sparta Police Chief Sean Lukes noted that they received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. referencing gunshots fired in the area of Mark and Stevenson Drives.
Officers responded to the scene and within six to seven minutes later, there was another call of shots fired, but this time with a person downed.
Lukes noted that they responded to the 100 block of East Third Street and located a subject with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim had wounds in the left thigh, the right calf and the left hand.
The victim was originally taken to Sparta Community Hospital, then transferred to a St. Louis area hospital for what appeared at the time to be non life threatening injuries. Lukes added that as of the last report he had heard, the victim was in stable condition.
