Red Bud might just be one of the best communities in southwest Illinois, or so says the results of the recent St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s 2019 Best of Southwest Illinois contest.
The paper announced the results of their annual contest at an event in Belleville on July 25 and published them in a special edition last weekend. The contest had readers vote for their favorites in more than 100 categories. Red Bud had 40 entries make it into the final round of voting and then had 26 named as the best.
The City of Red Bud itself received honors in the Best in the Community division by tying with Waterloo for the Best Place for Visitors. The Red Bud Fire Department took the honors as the Best Fire Department.
Taking a total of six top honors was The Opera House Bistro. They were named as the best for cheesecake, desserts, seafood, specialty restaurant, steak and banquet facility.
The Burnt End wasn’t far behind in bringing home honors as they were the winning restaurant in three categories – barbecue, happy hour and hot wings.
