Seabee Reunion

The regional Island 5 Seabee Chapter met Saturday, March 7 at Perryville’s Vietnam Wall for its 78th birthday recognition and Bee’s Swarm. Pictured are those that attended the reunion. The Seabees were officially formed March 5, 1942 as a hybrid of the Marines and Navy, training in combat and providing their professional construction experience to meet the demands of building air bases, camps in jungles, underwater demolition teams and anything impossible to do while under fire. The Seabees were at the front of all 100 military amphibious landings in the Pacific theater, as well as in the European front for the invasion in Normandy’s D-Day landing. Their involvements continued after WWII through Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and more recently the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
