School board recognizes students and staff, approves calendar change

While student and staff recognitions were a big part of the Feb. 20 Red Bud Board of Education meeting, a change on next year’s school calendar and senior final exam exemptions were also discussed.

When the board was considering the 2020-2021 school calendar, Superintendent Jonathan Tallman pointed out that there would be a “subtle change to the traditional calendar.”

He went on note that the biggest change is the faculty institute days, and them trying to balance the two semesters out more equally. This fall, the teachers will have two institute days instead of one, on Aug. 13 and 14. This will eliminate the spring institute day.

The first day of student attendance will then be held on Monday, Aug. 17. In the past, the first day for students was a Tuesday.

The board approved of the proposed calendar.

As for senior final exam exemption proposal, High School Principal Rob Pipher noted that the school improvement committee had looked at ways to incentivise exam exemptions.
