Rollover crash claims life of local man

A local man passed away on Friday evening from injuries he sustained in an accident.

According to initial reports by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, around 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, Richard L. Schlesinger, 69, of Prairie du Rocher, was traveling in a 1997 GMC pickup truck on Ames Road. About one mile south of State Route 3 outside of Red Bud, he lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected, causing the truck to overturn off the roadway in an embankment.

He was transported from the scene by ambulance to Red Bud Regional Hospital. Randolph County Coroner Carlos Barbour reported that Schlesinger was pronounced deceased at the hospital a few hours later due to his injuries from the crash.

Responding to the crash were the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Monroe County EMS and the Red Bud Fire Department.

The accident is still under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and the Randolph County Coroner’s Office.
