Red Bud Council recognized by SISAA

Red Bud’s City Council and Police Chief John Brittingham were honored by Southern Illinois Substance Abuse Alliance (SISAA) at Monday night’s council meeting.

Pastor Mark Nebel was at the meeting to make presentations on behalf of SISAA. He reported that Brittingham had helped create and chair the group, and presented him with a certificate in appreciation of all his work.

Nebel then wanted to recognize the city council for their continued support. He added that around five years ago, Randolph County was showing higher drug and alcohol usage rates than the state. Since then SISAA and the county’s communities have worked hard to reduce that number.

In addition, he noted that as the State of Illinois has legalized recreational marijuana, many municipalities have been tempted to allow for the sale of it to generate income. Nebel urged the city council to continue to resist the temptation, and to continue to value the lives and health of the youth and citizens in the community.
