Welda W. DeRousse, Jr.

A helicopter crash in Red Bud over the weekend claimed the life of a Red Bud business owner.

Multiple agencies responded to the crash, which took place on the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 19 at EZ Self-Storage near West Market and Violet Drive.

Red Bud Fire Chief Sean Landgraf noted that the fire department was paged out for the accident at 2:06 p.m. Since most of the firemen were already at the firehouse at that time, they were able to respond to the scene within a few moments.

He stated that when they arrived, the helicopter and western most unit in the storage building were on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished.

Also responding to the scene were: the Red Bud Police, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Illinois Conservation Police, Randolph County Coroner’s Office and MedStar Ambulance.
