On Jan. 30, Red Bud traveled to New Athens to face the Lady Yellow Jackets. It was a tight game in the beginning as Red Bud managed to score nine points in the first quarter. Sami Lucht had five with a two-pointer and a three-pointer. Olivia Carle and Hannah Sievers put in the other two point shots. New Athens only put up seven points of their own and were down by two heading into the second quarter.
Throughout the second quarter, Red Bud’s scoring increased as the team added 13 points and held New Athens to just four. Claire Grohmann had eight of these points, all created by two-point shots. Chloe Wild and Carle each made a two-pointer. The final point was a free throw by Sievers. Red Bud was up by 11 at halftime.
The third quarter was another close one as Red Bud scored 12 more points. Carle had six of those with a couple two-pointers and two free throws. Three of the points belonged to Sievers with a two-pointer and free throw. Lucht added two and Grohmann sank a free throw. New Athens put up 10 points giving Red Bud a 13 point lead going into the final quarter.
