RBPD looking to add a K9 officer to department

Red Bud Police Chief John Brittingham is hoping to get a new officer on the police department soon, specifically one with four legs and a powerful sense of smell.

Red Bud hasn’t had a K9 since Bo was retired in mid-2013 after failing his annual K9 certification. Brittingham has been working on trying to bring the program back, and recently pointed out the benefits to the city council.

At the council’s committee meetings on Oct. 19, Brittingham told the aldermen that the police have been seeing an escalation of drugs in the area. A K9 would help with that problem, as well as help in finding drugs that have been hidden or thrown out of vehicles.
