Randolph County commissioners hear good news at recent meeting

Good news was highlighted at the May 29 Randolph County Board of Commissioners meeting, with updates on the port district and the county’s COVID-19 situation.

Kaskaskia Regional Port District General Manager Ed Weilbacher was on hand to discuss the recently completed master plan for KRPD #2 (Baldwin).

He first thanked Commissioners Marc Kiehna for helping the port district in applying for the federal grant, which has really helped them on this project.

Weilbacher noted that they have been looking at the port district’s infrastructure needs and this is a $120,000 project.

In addition, they are needing to make upgrades to the railroad terminal at KRPD #1 (New Athens), which will cost around $9 million. With these upgrades, they be able to double the tonnage shipped on the river and create at least 15 or more jobs.
