Rachel Steibel named VFW Teacher of the Year for the State of Illinois

TEACHER OF THE YEAR–Prairie du Rocher School teacher Rachel Steibel was recently named as the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year at the state level. Red Bud VFW Post #6632 is proud to announce that for the second year in a row, a teacher from the Red Bud VFW Post area has been named the VFW Teacher of the Year for the State of Illinois.

Receiving the honor for this year is Rachel Steibel, who won in the K-5 category. 

It was announced last November that Steibel was the local post winner for the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award. She advanced on to the VFW District 14 level, then state. She is now in the running for Teacher of the Year on the national level.

Steibel is a first grade teacher at Prairie du Rocher School. She has been teaching there since 1998. She is also the school’s Veterans Day coordinator and has brought in many veterans, to speak at the school, as well as a service dog.

In her own words, Steibel noted, “I have become increasing more aware of the importance of the practice of Americanism for my students.”
