On Sept. 27, the refurbishing of the knee walls at Fort Kaskaskia was completed. Fort Kaskaskia’s shelter house was destroyed by a fire in October 2012 and thanks to community fundraising efforts, was rebuilt and rededicated in October 2018. Earlier this year, efforts were made by the Community Foundation of Randolph County to fundraise money to refurbish the shelter’s knee walls, so they could match the shelter house. The foundation appreciates those in the community who helped in the fundraising efforts, as well as Quadrant Design, Gateway FS Construction Services and Fithian Brothers Masonry for their work on and support of this project. Pictured working on the overlook knee wall are Ryne, Jodie, Gary and Cory Fithian of Fithian Brothers Masonry in Red Bud.
