PdR has lots of nominations in Best of the River contest

Prairie du Rocher has a seriously strong showing in the 2020 Best of The River contest held by River Travel Magazine.

The magazine’s annual contest is a survey “focusing on the best attractions, accommodations, food and drink, and trails and tours along the Great River Road from northern Minnesota down to the Gulf of Mexico.”

This year the contest was kicked off early due to the pandemic and features more than 75 new categories (for a total of 185 categories).

Federally designated as a National Scenic Byway, the Great River Road covers 3,000 miles of roads and highways roughly following the Mississippi River through 10 states. The route was “selected for its natural, cultural, historical, recreational and scenic properties.” Along the route are many tourism opportunities.

According to the Great River Road’s website, www.experien-cemississippiriver.com, the road is “The Best Drive in America” and “arguably the longest and most important scenic byway in America.”

Prairie du Rocher was very well represented in this year’s contest with the Rocher Pub nominated in 20 categories, Lisa’s Market Street Grille nominated in 18 categories, Fort de Chartres nominated in 10 categories, Myer’s Korner Market in two categories, as well as the Creole House, the Conner House Bed and Breakfast, and the Prairie du Rocher American Legion nominated in one category each.
