O’Bryan honored with VFW banner

HOMETOWN HERO–A banner honoring local veteran George O’Bryan is currently on display outside of the Red Bud VFW Post. Pictured with the banner are: his son Dennis and daughter in law Regan O’Bryan, both of Burlington, WV, and his daughter Kelly Roehrkasse of Red Bud.

Hometown Hero George R. O’Bryan is being honored with the latest banner on display outside Red Bud VFW Post 6632.

O’Bryan was 20 years old when he entered military service. He was a staff sergeant during World War II, serving with United States Army’s 66th Armored Infantry Battalion. His outfit was captured towards the end of the war and he was a prisoner of war for four months at Stalag 11B.

He received the following medals during his service: American Theater Campaign, EAMET Campaign, a Bronze Star, Good Conduct and the Victory Medal.
