Musketeers top Eagles; Columbia here Friday

by Brian Magee

Red Bud returned to form last week with a convincing win over the Eagles from Brentwood, Missouri. The game had many highlights with The Boys posting points in every frame of the contest.

The scoring began when the Musketeer defense held the Eagles on a fourth and long in their own territory, forcing a punt. The ball was received by the Red Bud return man Kaleb Barringer who took the ball 80 yards for a touchdown. The PAT sailed wide, but The Boys were up 6-0. Red Bud added to the lead with a 3 yard touchdown run by Chase Ward at the midway point of the first quarter to up the score to 12-0.

The score-fest continued in the second quarter when Ward hit pay dirt on a 1 yard touchdown dive; Sam Carroll’s PAT made it 19-0. Brentwood got on the board less than a minute later when the Musketeer defense was caught a little flat footed allowing a 73 yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion pass was broken up in the end zone to make it 19-6. Before the half ended, Frank Ford scored the Musketeers’ third touchdown on a 6-yard run. Carroll was perfect with the kick to give The Boys a 26-6 lead at the half.
